Dear Parents:

The parents of I.S. 318 will have the opportunity to take various courses through the New York City Department of EducationÕs Office of Adult and Continuing Education.  These courses will assist parents who are interested in the following:

á       English as a Second Language (ESL:  Beginning to Advanced levels

á       Basic Education (BE):  Basic Literacy through preparation for the General Educational Development (GED) test

á       Preparation for the General Educational Development Exam

á       Career and Technical Education (CTE):  Computer literacy

Prior to taking the ÒPreparation for the General Development Exam (GED)Ó course, a person must be able to meet the minimum requirements of the ÒBasic Education (BE) Literacy CourseÓ.   The ÒPreparation for the General Development Exam (GED)Ó course will lead to a participant obtaining their GED if they pass the required exam.  This GED will make you eligible for admittance into various technical schools and colleges.  Classes usually meet three hours per day - two days a week for five weeks.  Courses will take place during the evening hours (6:00 pm – 9:00 pm).  Depending on the requirements of the course work, certain courses will meet at different times.

These courses are opened to anyone over the age of 21 who lives in New York City, there are no other

requirements.  We are hoping that many of our parents will take part in these programs.  The Office of Adult Education will only have the courses at IS 318 if enough parents are interested.

This is a wonderful opportunity for our parents to continue their education through approved course work.  If you are interested please check below any of the courses you wish to take (remember, you can only take the GED preparation course if you meet the requirements of the Basic Education (BE):  Basic Literacy Course).
