Dear Parents:

Within the next two weeks, our students will be taking the New York State ELA and Mathematics Exam.  We have spent a great deal of time preparing our students to meet the requirements to succeed on these exams. We have incorporated various lessons and assignments into their subject area classes that are designed to help students with respect to both the ELA and Mathematics exams.   Here are some test taking tips that will assist your child when taking these exams:

-         Get a good night sleep (at least 8 hours) on the evening before each exam

-         Have a good breakfast on the morning of the test (you may have breakfast at home or you may choose to have breakfast at IS 318 which is served from 7:10 am until 8:22 am)

-         Bring in 4 number 2 pencils and a highlighter if you wish to highlight important information on the exam

-         Dress appropriately for the weather,  and if you feel the classroom might be a bit too cool, bring a light sweater

-         You have permission during testing to have hard candy, such as life savers (No Gum Please)

In order to ensure that our students will be ready for the exam, we have cancelled our early morning program and tutoring program on the days when the exams are given.  If your child’s grade is not taking an exam, they are expected to attend their early morning program as scheduled.
