Dear Parents,

We have decided to have our first Annual Walk-A-Thon on Tuesday, June 1st (June 2nd will be the rain date).  After speaking with our Leadership Team, Executive PTA Board and our student government, we have decided to add a carnival atmosphere to the day and include activities such as a basketball, hockey and soccer shot for accuracy, football and softball throw and a dunking tank. Winners will win prizes at these activities.  We have also planned some indoor activities designed to have students recover after their outdoor activities. Students can buy tickets before this event.  Letters will be sent home during the week of May 24th.  On this day students may wear their gym uniforms or shorts and a T-Shirt to school.  There will be prizes for the Top 1st, 2nd  and 3rd  place students and Top Class on each Grade.

We are also taking many precautions because it may be quite warm on this day.  We will have water available while students are walking around the block and in our school yard to make sure that students stay hydrated.  We are also inviting the local EMS unit to be stationed close to our school throughout the day.  We are also alerting the local police and fire departments of the activities that will be taking place. Even though this a fun and enjoyable activity we want to make sure that we take all the precautions necessary to make it a safe day.

Attached you will find the “Sponsor Sheets” that students will use to sign up sponsors.  As discussed at our last PTA meeting we are asking each family to start off by making a “Family Sponsor Donation” of at least $20, if possible.  If you wish to give more we will be delighted.  We are happy with any donation you can make.  If the family also wants to sponsor by the lap around the block or offer an additional flat donation this would also be greatly appreciated.  Our goal is to try to offset some of the budget cut that we are facing for the upcoming school year.

There are additional sponsor sheets attached for you to have friends and relatives become involved with our school community.  Sponsors can either support you with a flat fee or they can sponsor the amount of laps your children walk around the school ($1 per lap – if you do 15 laps that is $15).  They can also state a maximum amount they will sponsor.  If the maximum amount is $15 and you do 20 laps the most they will sponsor is $15.  We are happy for any amount that is sponsored.  We would like to get any of the “flat fee” sponsorships and the family donations when you return the family sponsor sheet.  Please return the “Family Flat Fee Sponsorship” form and “Flat Fee Sponsorship” form by Tuesday, June 1, 2010.  The other sponsorships should be returned by Friday, June 4th.

Students and sponsors will be receiving certificates and thank you letters for their sponsors.  We are hoping for a very successful event on June 2nd.  If you have any questions please feel free to call.

                                                                                                Sincerely,

   Fortuanto V. Rubino
